Emphasis on Aerial Robotics

Aerial robots hold great promise for applications as diverse as natural resource monitoring, infrastructure inspection, agriculture, mineral exploration, journalism, and search & rescue operations. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) form the most vibrant sector of the aerospace industry, growing more quickly than any other segment. It is forecast that the UAV sector will continue to experience strong growth for the next decade, and that, globally, almost US$90 billion will be spent on new vehicles and support systems over that period. The development of commercial UAVs requires a broad array of technical skills, across multiple disciplines bringing together aerodynamicists, structural designers, materials engineers, propulsion experts, control specialists, and roboticists, to design and develop state-of-the-art aerial robotic platforms.

The Emphasis in Aerial Robotics is sponsored by the Centre for Aerial Robotics Research and Education (CARRE). The program creates an opportunity to enhance the graduate student experience with a view to further develop expertise in the burgeoning field of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This emphasis focuses on integrated research and development on aerial robotics systems, from design, instrumentation, to autonomy.

The Emphasis in Aerial Robotics is available to all eligible students in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering whose area of research is relevant to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and may be subject to the CARRE Director’s approval. Interested students are required to sign-up via the registration link below.

Students who successfully complete the requirements of the Emphasis in Aerial Robotics are required to inform the CARRE Program Coordinator at hugh.liu@utoronto.ca. Upon verification, the technical emphasis will be reflected on the student’s academic transcript, in addition a certificate of completion will be issued. The certificate may be claimed by contacting the CARRE Program Coordinator.
